Our Story

The Boys

Welcome to The White Hart Ufford. The White Hart has a long history; nestled near the historic town of Stamford at the junction of four counties, it has seen the village of Ufford change and grow over the years. Since the 17th Century she has existed first as a set of agricultural buildings, then incorporating a brewing house and latterly, since the 1910s, purely as a public house. Up until the 2010s the famous if not particularly sophisticated White Hart beer was brewed here. After the beer ceased to be brewed The White Hart was able convert the brewery into more bedrooms and as of 2024 is able to welcome guests in a total of 12 bedrooms; bringing people from all over the country to this quiet and beautiful corner of the world. The area known for its Ketton Stone and Collyweston Slate is distinct in its look and has been wowing visitors for years. The Inn, built in the same style is no exception.

In January 2022 four locals – Mark, Kevin, Andy, and Andy decided to step in and save their local when it came up for sale. ‘The Boys’ (as they are affectionately known), all successful in their own right (and with plenty of experience on the other side of the bar); would be the first to tell you they had very little experience in running an Inn– but what they did have was a vision of what they wanted their beloved local to be. After a year of getting to know the site, they closed in January 2023 for a full refurbishment of the bar and restaurant, transforming the space and giving the interior a lift and modernisation. Led by local interior designer Annie Alison with the remit of ‘Modern Country’ – soft furnishings, a warmth and quiet sophistication was brought to the historic building. The White Hart also boasts a three-acre paddock. Until The Boys took over the Inn it was left open to grazing sheep. With care and attention, it has been lovingly restored and is now not only a relaxing and vibrant space in the summer but also hosts 2 landmark events throughout the year.

A new management team also took over in January 2023 bringing stability, and collectively 75 years’ worth of experience in the hospitality sector. Eager to match the beautiful design, a commitment to great food, well-kept beer, fantastic service, and a genuine desire to provide the best hospitality possible was made. They are passionate about showcasing this amazing part of the world – with produce from Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Rutland and Leicestershire all on The White Hart’s doorstep, as well as a range of fantastic, selected suppliers from further afield. Building the team has been a big part of the challenge of running an Inn in 2024 and both the owners and management team are thrilled with the people they have brought into The White Hart family. Each one brings their own set of skills and unique perspective to the business. They bring the care and attention that is so important about the experience that is being created for patrons at The White Hart. The Inn is lucky enough to have 3 unique dining spaces which work as standalone spaces or combine to make a great venue. The team are passionate about making The White Hart as accommodating as possible and accordingly can hold everything from sensitive wakes, family celebrations, lively parties, and special intimate weddings. They are working hard to ensure The White Hart is the best she possibly can be.

With a long and well thought of reputation The White Hart has once again been set on a course to forge her own place as a destination eatery and place to stay and you are invited to come along.
